When my brother Clark visited me in October he bought a New England waterfalls book. Since he doesn't live here he gave it to me. Clark you'll be pleased to know that we used it and it was quite handy. So this book rates waterfalls on a 5 point scale, gives directions, and describes the trail a little. Tannery Falls was about 45 minutes from where we camped and was rated 5/5 and was a 1/2 mile hike. We thought it would be the perfect way to start the day.
The book gave directions to Tannery Rd which led to the trail head, but warned that the road was not maintained. If you parked and walked up the road it was only .7 mi to the trail head. We glanced up the road and decided not to risk it and to walk. As we were walking we realized that we did not know which end of the road we were at. 45 minutes later we found the trail head. We were just a little further than .7 mi. It was fine though. We found an old cemetery and everyone was happy, especially Walter who got to run around like the crazy dog he is.
Along the trail to the falls several other waterfalls can be seen. We saw 4 other waterfalls. The book said there were about a dozen, but some were off the beaten path. Since our hike was already longer than we had planned we just stuck to the trail. The waterfall was beautiful and was definitely worth the walk.

| I'm sure it's much more impressive in the spring. |
We had to improvise our plans since Tannery Falls took longer than expected and decided to stop by Wahconah Falls which we had passed on our drive. We ate lunch at the Wahconah Falls trail head and and enjoyed a .1 mi hike basically to the falls. There was a deep pool at the base of the falls where they used to allow swimming (so said the book), but there was a no swimming sign posted. The water was freezing and John and Walter were planning on swimming at a nearby lake anyway. Next stop Onota Lake.
Love it! Wish I was in NE with you.
